I've always liked this spot and had hopes of getting to the overpass on the other side for the Westbound on Tuesday, but luck wasn't on our side. I heard the meet going down at Earlham while we were making our way out of the Des Moines area and I knew it would be close. Too close in fact, and I was within 30 seconds of missing this shot too; just slowed down and pulled to the shoulder while shooting through the windshield... By: Andy Brown

But we easily got ahead of the train for a runby at Stuart.

While the train crew set out much of their train at Menlo, we found a campsite and got set up at lake Anita S.P. while monitoring the scanner. When I knew they were getting close I headed back out to my favorite stretch along the White Pole Road for another runby, working in the cool 161/345 dual voltage power line.

I may have forgotten if it was previously reported, so was surprised to see the depot gone at Wiota. They're using the spur to unload rock now.

Next morning the same power is headed east at Anita.

On our way home from visiting Mrs. Brown's folks in Omaha we took the scenic route through Oakland, Hancock and Atlantic. I was surprised to see the slot train here at Hancock; I'm not sure if they're widening the fill for a specific project or just fortifying RI's previous, sometimes questionable work in the Cutoff.

The Hancock switcher was out front in decent light for photos so I took advantage of the situation.

Saturday morning we needed to get moving to our next stop for my Nephew's wedding in Eldora. This put me in a dilemma; Chatter on the radio indicated that the EB needed to be clear of or hold back from the corssings in Atlantic between the hrs of 8-10am, due to a footrace for Coca Cola days or whatever the annual civic festival there is called. With the crew indicating that they weren't going to finish their pickup/air test in time, I was forced to make a decision whether to head on over to Atlantic or just let it go and head east empty handed. Well it's obvious what I did, and after seeing this consist I felt completely justified in making the trip!
