Westbound football special at the Wilton overpass, Oct. 20, 1973. This scene is essentially the same today, with the exception of the aluminum guard rail on the overpass being replaced by a concrete one during a widening project 10 years ago or so, welded rail is now in place on the track the train is on, and the former westbound main in the immediate foreground is now part of N. Star siding. By: Andy Brown

Football special on the mp214 curve east of Atalissa, Oct. 12, 1974. This location is inaccessible by car; Rich must've hiked in from the road crossing east of here. Notice the (mostly) welded rail on the westbound main (the train is running wrong main for some reason); this rail is still in place today, part of a RI installation from mp211 in Moscow to mp 215.5 just east of Atalissa. Looking east at the west end of West Lib. siding in CTC days, November 24, 1973. The cement relay hut is still there today, pushed off into the ditch at approximately the same location as what is now the west switch of the ECI ramp. At one time double track extended all the way to the Iowa River bridge in Iowa City; in the 1950s the eastbound main was removed up to this point. Later still the diamond in front of the West Lib. depot was single tracked, making this a siding; the east switch was immediately west of the diamond directly in front of the WL depot. By: Andy Brown

Wilton local is heading west across the Cedar River, July 12, 1993. This was during the height of the '93 flood; small potatoes on the Cedar River compared to the flood of '08. Alas, if Rich shot any of the '93 detours they weren't offered for sale on ebay. The oncoming shot of this train was badly blurred and not worth posting. By: Andy Brown
