This week I finished adding static grass, wild flowers, weeds, and road weathering throughout the layout (except for future bridge scenes). Many of the photo backdrops remain to be added, as well as trees throughout the layout.

Hancock Elevator after weathering, showing new static grass and weeds on the hillside to the north. Many details and trees remain to be added throughout. A thick cut of pine trees on the prototype near the covered hopper's location will serve to hide the "tunnel" entrance once scenery is complete. That tunnel allows me to manually shove cuts of covered hoppers north (left) of the elevator as they're loaded between operating sessions, meaning my model crews can pull from the same location near the covered hopper as their prototype counterparts. North end of Hancock Elevator. The spilled corn between the rails is crushed white pepper. Like most vehicles on the layout at the moment, that trailer obviously needs some weathering attention! By: Joe Atkinson

Looking east near Peter at new undergrowth lining the cut, and static grass and wild flowers in the adjacent fields. By: Joe Atkinson

Looking west at McClelland. The push pins were used to identify future structure locations. Road weathering throughout the layout was done with a combination of diluted India ink, Pan Pastels, and pencil lead. By: Joe Atkinson
