Last week I replaced the stub-ended backdrop on my peninsula with a balloon-style. Also, I painted my valance above the entire layout CTC green to match the fascia, and replaced the snow fence at Bluffs Yard with some better-looking fencing that Randy O'Brien kindly provided me. Thanks again Randy!

"After" image, showing the new balloon-shaped backdrop. It's made from 24" aluminum flashing, which is commonly used for window wraps with vinyl siding. I bonded it over the ends of the existing Masonite sections using E-6000 adhesive. By: Joe Atkinson

"After" image showing the new green valance. Besides providing a more cohesive look, I think the change also does a better job of drawing my eye toward the layout itself. I should have done this a long time ago, but credit my visit to James McNab's very well-done IAIS Grimes Line layout with pushing me to finally go ahead with it. By: Joe Atkinson

Randy O'Brien of the Proto-Layouts list kindly sent me some "snow fence" he made that I like much better than the bridal lace I used for my first attempt, so I replaced mine with his. He made it by soaking fiberglass window screen material in acetone solvent, then flattening it with a hammer and painting it orange. Here's a photo showing Randy's fencing in place at Bluffs Yard.
