Recently I decided to do away with or retire everything on the layout that didn't see action on the West End during my era. One change was that LLPX 2809 was redetailed and renumbered to 2802, since the 2809 didn't come to the West End until October 2005. The photos here were taken following that rework.
Engineer's side of LLPX SD38-2 2802. This model started out as the 2809, but was later redetailed and renumbered to 2802, since the former didn't come to the West End during my era.

The conversion was pretty straightforward. The #1 radiator fan was replaced with a lower-profile DB fan, a new horn, flag brackets, cab roof details, and nose Gyralight housing were added, the long hood lettering was moved forward, spark arrestors were replaced with standard exhaust stacks, the pilots were repainted to black, and the weathering was touched up.

The #1 radiator fan is a Cannon DB fan, simulating the low-profile radiator fan used in this position on the prototype unit. One of the Details West #323 flag brackets can be seen beneath the lower left corner of the radiator grill.
