Track laying is finally underway on the Grimes Line. About 48 feet of the main track is complete, with the spurs still to come. By: James McNab

Micro Engineering Code 70 track and turnouts were used exclusively. It best matches the prototype's 115 lb rail. Feeders were soldered under the rail prior to being installed. By: James McNab

Despite my best efforts the track had to be shimmed on the Hickman Road bridge, but will be covered with a layer of ballast on the deck. By: James McNab

To keep the track in alignment across the lift-outs the rail was soldered to small screws on both sides, then sliced at the joint. By: James McNab

The layout is electrically continuous except for the two lift-outs. 1/4" Phono plugs wired to the bus give power to the sections in a simple setup. By: James McNab

The most complex trackwork is at Urbandale where the Millard and Pharmtech spurs are almost on top of each other. Because of space limitations I had to place this track at the beginning of the easement for the SE basement corner turn. I was able to modify the ME turnouts to fit the area without issue. Per the prototype, the Pharmtech turnout has been spiked and the diverging point removed. By: James McNab

I've got about 10 more feet and two turnouts to lay and the main running track will be complete. I'll then go back and work in the runaround and spur tracks, including the PDM plant and passing tracks in Clive. By: James McNab
